The advisory recommends staying well-hydrated, wearing protective clothing, limiting outdoor activities, and staying vigilant. Particularly at risk are infants, young children, outdoor workers, pregnant women, individuals with mental health issues, and those with pre-existing conditions like heart disease or hypertension.

A comprehensive list of do's and don'ts has been shared with the public. The government has also ensured preparedness by stocking up on special beds, IV fluids, essential medications at health facilities, and distributing ORS sachets to auxiliary nurse midwives, accredited social health activists, and Anganwadi workers for emergencies.

In a related development, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a severe heat wave warning for Odisha after Bhubaneshwar recorded a scorching 43.6 degrees Celsius, the season's highest temperature, on Friday.

The IMD's statement on X indicated, "Severe heat wave conditions are expected in isolated areas of Odisha from April 18-19, with heat wave conditions persisting on April 20-21, 2024."

Manorama Mohanty, Director of IMD Bhubaneswar, informed ANI that Bhubaneshwar hit 43.6 degrees Celsius, with 27 other cities in the state experiencing temperatures exceeding 41 degrees Celsius.

"The highest temperature was recorded in Bhubaneshwar at 43.6 degrees Celsius. Boudh and Angul also saw temperatures soaring above 43 degrees Celsius," Mohanty added.
