The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) is set to broaden its Indian Clinical Trial and Education Network (INTENT) by soliciting tenders from both public and private medical research institutions to facilitate regulatory clinical trials for drugs and devices.
The move aims to bolster the existing network, which currently comprises 47 institutes encompassing public and private medical colleges, hospitals, and research institutions, including those under the ICMR.
Established with the objective of conducting large-scale, regulatory-compliant clinical trials, INTENT seeks to provide evidence-based solutions to national health priorities in a culturally sensitive manner.
Through expressions of interest (EOI) from interested institutions, ICMR intends to expand the network's capabilities, fostering high-quality clinical research to address prevalent health issues across India.
The network's overarching goals include generating robust evidence through hospital-based and community-based trials, guiding health policies, enhancing clinical research capacity, and facilitating inter-ministerial collaborations.
Coordinated by the Clinical Studies and Trials Unit (CSTU) under the Division of Development Research at ICMR, INTENT will offer selected centers various study support services, including data management, statistical support, insurance coverage, and regulatory advice.
Selected institutions will have the opportunity to participate in clinical research projects funded by INTENT, with technologies selected based on their relevance to national health priorities.
Overall, the expansion of INTENT signifies a concerted effort to strengthen clinical research infrastructure in India and address key healthcare challenges through evidence-based interventions.
